Agile Practice Lead, Commonwealth Bank
Energetic, caring and fun, Sam Bowtell brings these traits to every aspect of his work and life as a Leader, Coach, Trainer and Facilitator. Sam works for the Commonwealth Bank in Australia, and in his current role he runs the Bank’s Agility Practice, leading the Bank’s team of Agile coaches who help people adopt better ways of working and leading. He is also Australia’s most recently qualified Certified Scrum Trainer with the Scrum Alliance.

In the community Sam is involved in some skilled volunteering with OzHarvest, looking at how they can use the Agile mindset and scrum practices to improve how they run their operations. Outside of work, Sam is a lifelong Chelsea supporter, a mirror twin and a loving husband, father, friend and coach to his family, Sara, Jasmine and Charlie and their two chickens!

Ellen Broad returned to Australia from the UK in late 2016, where she was Head of Policy for the Open Data Institute (ODI), an international non-profit founded by Sir Tim Berners-Lee and Sir Nigel Shadbolt. While in the UK, Ellen became an expert adviser to senior UK government minister Elisabeth Truss on data. She has also held roles as Manager of Digital Policy and Projects for the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (Netherlands) and Executive Officer for the Australian Digital Alliance. She is an independent consultant for organisations including Data61, Knowledge Unlatched, the Queensland government and the Open Data Institute Australian Network, while doing a masters in applied data analytics. Ellen’s written and spoken about AI, open data and data sharing issues in places like the New Scientist and the Guardian, for ABC Radio National’s ‘Big Ideas’ and ‘Future Tense’ Programmes and at SXSW. Unrelated to her job, Ellen built an open data board game, Datopolis together with ODI CEO Jeni Tennison, which is being played in 19 countries. She is currently writing a book called MADE BY HUMANS: The AI Condition to be published in August 2018.

Geoffrey Dunn has been a software engineer for 20 years and more recently been working more as a tester. We’re in the middle of a revolution on how we think about software development and Geoffrey wants to help teams navigate through these turbulent times to find better practices that work for them.

During Juliet’s ABS career she has led service delivery programs, change management programs, strategic and operational technical and business transformation projects. Recently certified as a qualified Professional Scrum Master, Juliet has been leading the ABS for the past 3 years towards transforming how business delivers its products and services through the adoption of Agile practices.
CEO, Cahoots
Jess Karlsson was appointed to the role of CEO of Cahoots in September 2015, bringing with her extensive executive management experience in the NFP sector, including individualised services in recreation, youth, children, indigenous and disability services for over a decade. Cahoots has experienced significant growth and success since Jess joined the team in 2015.

Jess’ community engagement and volunteering activities add to her skills and strengths, including; Rotary Club Board member, Community event coordinator, twice nominated Territory Young Achiever, Community Coach, and volunteer for a range of activities including delivery of disability recreation services. Her passion is in providing inclusive opportunities for all people to grow and connect, as well as safeguarding our most vulnerable people, and she has actively advocated for charity’s by advocating and leading physical challenges in fundraising activities such as climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, abseiling down the Central Park building 5 years in a row and cycling 500km to Uluru in one day. Jess has a Bachelor of Exercise Sciences, Diplomas in Governance, Business, Human and Finance Management, and Sport and Recreation Management. Jess is also a qualified Company Director and has led many companies, both for profit and for purpose, through Board positions.

Rinku Razdan is the Founder and CEO of Connections – a multilingual, mobile app that uses data and API to connect migrants with their community, jobs and settlement information. Rinku believes in driving tech for good. She combines her personal journey of a first-generation migrant with professional achievement of being a technology consultant to build an optimum delivery model for Connections.

Rinku is an Agile champion having successfully implemented Agile transformations across various large financial institutions. Originally a trained architect, product designer and media engineer, Anet hails from Europe and the US where she worked with international innovation platforms to create cross-industry pollinated future-visionary experiences, featured by BBC and Discovery Channel.

In Australia, Anet has successfully worked with startups as well as large organisations such as Qantas Airways, AMP, Telstra and the Australian Federal Government. As part of AMP’s former service design team, she has won two prestigious Good Design Awards in recent years for the team’s service design achievements.

John Westgarth has built a career working in the innovation, education and government spaces. His passion is building healthy teams that delight customers to deliver business results. John is a certified Scrum Master with a background in design-thinking and scrappy Lean startup approaches.

After beginning his career working with not-for-profits, John began delivering emerging tech and innovation programs for the NSW Government, CSIRO, University of Technology Sydney and Decoded. John now works at Food Agility, an agrifood Co-operative Research Centre, increasing the impact of highly-specialised researchers through deliberate innovation.
